Olympic Broadcasting Building
2012 Olympic Village, London
I was commissioned by the Olympic Broadcasting Services to paint their building on the Olympic Park site in London. It is a huge building, made as a base for the world's media to broadcast from during the Games. I visited the site and made proposal sketches. This one, 'Olympic Sky', pictures the building beneath a big British Sky- with wind, rain clouds and the sun just about to appear from behind a cloud. This sketch symbolizes the air through which the broadcasting information will travel, and a sense of the wider space that the Games' spirit evokes.
I painted a large oil painting, and produced 300 limited edition prints which I mounted and signed. Each one was presented to the heads of the world's media. One was given as a gift to Lord Coe, the chairman of the London Olympics. The original oil painting will hang in the Olympic Broadcasting Services Headquarters in Madrid.
